#IslandLife: An Update from Guernsey

I’ve been living in Guernsey now for just over 3 months. It’s been a while since I updated you all on my life here in on the island, so I thought I would check back in again. I’m still loving living here and I am definitely getting used to the slower pace of life – and really enjoying it. I’m feeling more and more removed from London and the fast city lifestyle. In fact, when I go to London (about once a month for a couple of days), I get pretty frustrated by the sheer number of people banging into me and rushing past me in the street and on the Tube. Seriously, no regrets.

In terms of settling in, we’re still fighting the lack-of-furniture battle, but we are slowly winning. We have a sofa, a coffee table, a spare bed and a table & chairs. We’re getting into DIY and spend more time in B&Q than we ever thought we would. The basics are falling into place. We bought a car. We hosted New Year’s Eve at our house. We have had an abundance of visits from friends and family and quite a few have already booked in for later this year. I’m not sure we’re going to have much of the summer to ourselves, to be honest!

I’ve left the island a few times and haven’t experienced any of the shocking flight delays that I keep hearing about. I have been to London for meetings, photo shoots, a friend’s wedding, plus we went to visit my family for Christmas. But funnily enough, like when we lived in London, it was actually not as enjoyable to go away for Christmas as it was last year, because we didn’t feel the need to ‘escape’ for a few days. We would have loved to have had Christmas at home and then wrap up and go for a walk on the seafront. I think that’s a good sign that we are settling well here. There’s an annual Boxing Day dip in the sea here on the island – I’m not sure I would have taken part, but I definitely would have gone along to watch! I still love hiking and the cliff walks here. I wrote a blog post and shared some pictures from on a walk I took with my mum to Fermain Bay.  I can’t wait to explore more. Also, I found out that, in actual fact, despite my original presumptions, hot yoga does exist on the island. I haven’t managed to try it yet as there have been no courses running at the time, but I did try out Barre, which was a lot more difficult! I’m still running on Guernsey. I haven’t been doing as much as I’m definitely a self-confessed fair-weather runner and it has been raining a lot, but I’ve joined a running club in order to change that and get me out in all conditions. Sometimes you need a push and a schedule.

All in all, I think we’re really happy here. The biggest niggle is getting off the island to go anywhere – it will usually involve four flights and go via London, but we have that to come. I’m really looking forward to the next couple of years. I can’t wait to finish at least one room in the house. Or for the summer to hit.

Hello, I’m Stefanie! I’m here to inspire you to create the life you want to live. This site is my way of sharing my life with you and sprinkling a little inspiration along the way. I live on the beautiful island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands with my fiancé, Rob, a South African who often begrudgingly makes appearances on the blog. Travel is a huge part of our lives – we love exploring the world, trying new foods and seeing new places. You’ll find a lot of that here on the blog, as well as a lot of what’s on my mind and how I’m feeling.
