Intercontinental Prague Hotel - StefanieGrace.com
For the recent Prague marathon in early May, we chose to stay at the InterContinental Hotel Prague. We booked back in December via hotels.com and paid about £140/night.  We chose the hotel due to the location as it was a) next door to Rob’s dad’s group’s hotel who had flown from South Africa for the race, and b) up the street from the start of the race – don’t need to add more miles to that 26.2, right?! I felt that the price was reasonable for a five star hotel but it was not the cheapest hotel in Prague by a long shot.
Experience every modern luxury at this Prague hotel overlooking the Vltava River and Prague Castle. Located in the heart of the historical city, the hotel features a salt water indoor pool, full-service spa, and restaurant terrace, where you can see Prague’s skyline illuminate at night. This luxury Prague hotel is ideally placed directly on the most famous shopping boulevard, Parizska Street, lined with art nouveau houses and close to the historic old town. – IC Prague
The Room
We had a standard room on 2nd floor. It was small but served our purposes well as there was a lot of storage and it was quiet. The bed was really comfortable, as to be expected for an InterContinental hotel. There was also a pretty exciting pillow menu. Yes! The hotel is definitely older, but still good quality. The was a big safe which held both of our laptops, plus cameras etc – I found that to be a huge plus, as so many hotels have tiny safes these days that can’t even squeeze in the smallest MacBook Air. (#firstworldproblems I know but still…). There were a few extras in the room that made it more comfortable – water, kettle (no mint tea which always makes me sad), a UK adaptor which I found to be great service – they must have based it on my booking details? If they didn’t, then it was a marvellous coincidence.  The TV channels were ok, but we weren’t there for that – it was good to have though as we were doing a lot of pre- and post-marathon resting. One points that the shower often flooded the bathroom but it didn’t really cause any major issues, provided we didn’t leave clothes on the floor. All in all, a comfortable stay.

Service
As you would expected of a five star establishment, the service in the hotel was excellent. Room service was very good and the concierge was very aware of us and who we were whenever we called. In the bar & coffee shop, service was friendly and efficient. We booked a hotel car to the airport  at the end of our stay which was clean and comfortable. It was only couple of pounds more than the taxi we had come in and so easy to book & organise.
Wellness
The spa was area was lovely. It seemed to also be a gym for non-residents, but it wasn’t busy. The wellness and fitness area isn’t big but still relaxing. We booked a massage after the marathon. It was very good – just what I needed after completing my first marathon! There was, in fact, a discount code in the room for residents to have a simple relaxation massage, so it was great to get a little discount off something we had already planned. Afterwards, we spent ten minutes in the jacuzzi in the pool area before getting changed and hitting the town.

Grounds & Location
As I mentioned earlier, we definitely chose InterContinental Prague for its location. It is on the river with great views. It is near lots of shops & restaurants and only a 5-10 minute walk to Old Square. There are no gardens or grounds to speak of but the views from the roof terrace more than make up for that.
Food
There are 4 main eating options at the hotel: The breakfast room/restaurant, which we didn’t eat at as we wanted to get out and explore coffee shops. Zlata Praha is the luxury restaurant on the roof of the hotel. We didn’t get around to having food there as we had made plans but we did go up for a drink to take in the views. Duke’s Bar on the ground floor offers good coffee and cake in its cafe section plus a whisky & cocktail bar with great bar food. Finally, the room service menu is very similar to that in Duke’s. The food is good quality and offers simple dishes such as great club sandwiches & salads. We were grateful for room service on the morning of the marathon. I always have a bagel with peanut butter & banana before long runs, so I ordered a basic breakfast and brought my own peanut butter from home.

Summary
I really enjoyed my stay at the InterContinental Prague. It boasts a great location & brilliant service. I would definitely stay there again were I to return to Prague, though I’d definitely look to get a good deal on it too. To be honest, it would do well to be modernised given the pricing. You can’t really go wrong with the InterContinental brand though.
