Happy New Year!
I do hope you are all full of beans for 2018! I am feeling pretty good actually. I have a lot going on, but I’m working on balance and I’m also keeping my eyes on the prize. This all means putting a little more focus on me and where I want to be in life.
I know don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I do know the kind of person that I want to be – and the kind of happy that I want to be – and so I want to make sure that everything I do is working towards that this year and beyond.
Let’s break this down a little bit.
My Blog
I love my blog. I started it in May 2008 when I lived in Spain as a student and it has followed me throughout my life since then in various guises. Next year will be the 10th birthday and just IMAGINE what I could do in the next 16 months. I will never give up this little hobby of mine. I’d love to make it more a part of my daily life. And with that I know that I probably need to merge my business life and my blogging life so please do join me this year as I navigate that one!
I’m starting 2018 with a brand new blogging schedule – Tues/Thurs/Sat (or Sunday – I will lock that in as soon as I work out which works better on those weekend days. I’m also planning to add in one video a week to that plan and incorporate it into one of those blog posts – this will take a little more planning but I do think that it will make more sense and be more cohesive in the long run. My blog is also a great place to play around with new social apps and features before trying them on clients so if I can get on top of this schedule, then everything else should follow!
My Business
I have realised that running ALL THINGS SOCIAL is REALLY what I want to do. I want to be my own boss. I want to help small business owners. I am consistently filled with ideas and creative juices and I want to channel them to fruition. (Ooh, get me.., I know!) This year I will definitely share more content around my business and my story as I pull my two narratives together.
Me!
What happens when you get really busy? You start dropping the ball. What’s the first thing to go? Self care. Amiright? I’m not allowing that this year. I’m balancing my schedule, I’m learning to say no, I’m learning about deadlines and I’m learning how long things take. I’m not skipping workouts when I get busy. Ditto on food shopping and meal times. I’m not missing sleep to try and keep up with my work load. I am not procrastinating on starting big projects – I’m breaking them down realistically. I’m going to light candles, take baths, avoid working weekends, get facials, go for a walk, have a glass of wine, do some yoga. I’m essentially going to be selfish. I’m making me number one. And I’m not going to apologise for it. Cos I’m not any good to anybody when I’m broken down too. Why do you think they tell you to look after yourself before helping others on aeroplane safety videos? EXACTLY.
