5 Places to Eat in Guernsey - Octopus - StefanieGrace.com

The next in my ‘5 Places to Eat’ series is right here in Guernsey where I live. And let me tell you – narrowing the list down to five places was really, really difficult. But I gave it a good go… expect a part two at some point in the future!

Our new starters, what do you think? #redgrillhouse #starters #newmenu #foodgenius #foodinspiration

Red Grill House

If you held a gun to my head and made me pick my favourite restaurant in Guernsey, I would probably say Red – although I don’t really want you to make me choose!
Red is a cocktail bar and grill with an impressive array of wines, and a even more impressive selection of cuts of steak. They do a great lunch deal of steak, chips and beanaise sauce for a tenner, which is amazing value, but to test out the real Red experience, you need to go in the evening. Order a bottle of red and pick a cut from the blackboard on the wall with a couple of sides. Depending on the mood I’m in, I either go with steamed greens and spinach salad or I go for the triple cooked chips and mac and cheese (sometimes you’ve just got to go for it… no matter the consequences!) For dessert, there is one that I love and would recommend – the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice cream. It’s TO DIE FOR and one of the reasons I’m only wheat and dairy free about 90% of the time!
Red also own a tapas bar adjacent called Tinto and a pizza restaurant above called Rosso. Both are pretty good and definitely worth a visit too. Trust me.

Le Petit Bistro & Cafe

Le Petit Bistro is a special place. Super French and filled with a array of quirku knickknack and eclectic piece of decor. The menu has all of the classic French dishes that you would expect: beef Bourgignon, moules marinieres and even escargots… yup, snails.  But they also have a great mix of modernised cuisine made with a whole host of ingredients, putting a contemporary twist on rustic French country food. I love it. I order differently every time but I particularly enjoy their beef tartare followed by either fish or lamb cassoulet. And I love to finish off the meal with a cafe gourmand – a tea or coffee with some mini desserts for those who just need a taste. It’s my mum’s favourite place to go when she comes to Guernsey and I love to take her there and even just pop in for a quick late meal on a weeknight with Rob. Don’t miss it!

Roc Salt Beach Cafe & Restaurant

I love any place that serves sweet potato fries and up until recently, that wasn’t very many places in Guernsey but Roc Salt is one of them. What I love about the place are the beach hut vibes in the decor – I kind of want everything for my living room. I also really love the lobster and steak meals that they offer – great value. It’s such a fun cosy place to be for the evening and its also great for a girly lunch on a sunny day. With an impressive selection of dry aged steak and seafood, plus inject your own donuts (yes, you read that right) it’s definitely worth the journey out of town to the Chouet headland to test it out. My next visit will be for the family serve roast dinners that they offer on a Sunday.

Using the freshest possible ingredients from local suppliers, we pride ourselves on being able to provide our guests with the very best that Guernsey has to offer! #guernseyoystersatroquaine #guernseyoysters #roquaineoysters ?@karenvanwinkel_photography

Octopus Gsy Bar & Restaurant

Octopus holds prime position overlooking Castle Cornet on the seafront at La Valette. They serve up beautiful fresh seafood, salads and steaks plus a couple of other special surprises. It’s worth the slightly longer walk from the town centre to test their famous Guernsey crab and lobster hot pots as well as their mussels in a variety of sauces – oh, and the oysters! I recommend heading over for a sunset cocktail before a cosy dinner whilst gazing at the castle beautifully lit up at night. It’s also a great place for brunch on a sunny morning watching people on the beach in front and boats coming in and out. Patio heaters make it work year-round when it’s dry.

Come and join us in the Market today for a spot of lunch in the sunshine, why not? #tasteguernsey #saturdays #treatday #guernsey #galette #marketday

Cafe Delices

Cafe Delices is a go-to of mine. I’m there at least once a week. I love to pop in for quick coffee meetings, to catch up on some work with great coffee and good wifi. It’s a small, but perfectly formed, hole-in-the -all on Market Square. The menu and vibe is a happy mix of pretty island back street with a heavy influence from our French neighbours. What the cafe is known for is their stunning selection of galettes (savoury crepes). My favourite is the Fermiere with bacon and goat cheese. They also serve delicious crepes, pastries, cakes and omelettes. Plus, they have a little ice cream cart that serves scrummy Guernsey ice cream for you to wander around in the sunshine with. Island perfection!

Incidentally, I haven’t been able to fit in Ziggurat, Christie’s, The Rockmount, The OGH, The Hook or The Duke of Richmond so I’m going to have to fill you in on those another time! 🙂

Have you been to my pretty little island? Do you have a favourite places to eat in Guernsey?

Hello, I’m Stefanie! I’m here to inspire you to create the life you want to live. This site is my way of sharing my life with you and sprinkling a little inspiration along the way. I live on the beautiful island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands with my fiancé, Rob, a South African who often begrudgingly makes appearances on the blog. Travel is a huge part of our lives – we love exploring the world, trying new foods and seeing new places. You’ll find a lot of that here on the blog, as well as a lot of what’s on my mind and how I’m feeling.
