Es Forn de Torre Soli Nou, Menorca

Es Forn de Torre Soli Nou menorca

On our first night in Menorca, we headed away from the seafront in search of good steak and I remembered that I had bookmarked one with great reviews on my TripAdvisor app: Es Forn de Torre Soli Nou. So, we headed down a dark lane somewhere between Es Migjorn Gran and Alaior following signs for ‘Torre Soli Nou’. The restaurant is brilliantly signposted once you are down this lane, so you can’t miss it. We pulled into a half-full car park and walked up a stony path that opened up to a beautiful courtyard lit by candlelight and buzzing with casual chatter, clinking glasses and cutlery. I was instantly in love with the place.

Stuffed peppers

We were welcomed with a smile and guided to a pretty table for two surrounded by vines with full view of ‘es forn‘ (the oven – el forno in Castilian) where we could see beautiful hunks of meat and vegetables sitting over a huge fire. I could see huge stuffed peppers that I was anxious to investigate up close. Funnily enough, that was the first dish recommended to us by the waitress, so we figured it was necessary to try. The peppers were stuffed with cod, vegetables & raisins. And they were delicious. We shared one serving which was more than ample between two people.

Argentinian Churrasco Steak

Grilled Belly Pork

For the main course, Rob went for the belly pork and I chose the Argentinian churrasco steak special. Both came expertly grilled, served with thin slices of potato and vegetables. The outside of the steak was crispy and delicious and came with a great chimichirri accompaniment. I really enjoyed it. The belly pork was just as good. Feeling pretty full and content, we skipped dessert and finished our wine, a beautifully rounded Mas d’Aranyó from Seguras Vuidas before getting a coffee and the bill. So how much? The total came to just over 80 euros (about £57). Es Forn de Torre Soli Nou is definitely one to remember.
