SS10: Pastels

This season is very girly. Frills and florals are taking over and colours have gone the same way with a typically pretty spring palette. So expect lots of pale blues, baby pinks and other pastel colours: soft lilacs, peaches, yellows, pistachios and creams. However, it’s not all candy floss and pink carnations. Pastel dresses in floaty chiffon and tulle are cut thigh-high, with provocative splits keeping a pretty look sexy.

For more inspiration, look to Luella for girly dresses, Burberry for beautiful modern separates (above), Valentino for the ultimate in soft and pretty cocktail dresses and Versace has produced some amazingly contemporary summer looks (below).
And despite the current weather, don’t forget that you can still wear this trend until the sun comes out. This ASOS mac is perfect for covering up on a spring day. And for a stylish workwear option, why not try this gorgeous blazer, also from ASOS.

Model Profile: Georgia May Jagger

Georgia May Jagger may have given up modelling for the moment in order to finish her A levels and turn 18, but that’s not going to stop her in life. That is something to remember of course, that despite the Bardot-esque looks and extensive career so far, Georgia is just 17 years old. And although her rock star/supermodel heritage should naturally give her the edge (her father is Rolling Stone Mick Jagger and her mother is supermodel Jerry Hall), she wants to make her own way in life. Something that she has certainly done with contracts with Rimmel, Hudson Jeans and Versace already under her belt!

Georgia follows in the footsteps of her mother Jerry who was a Versace model in the late 70s/ early 80s for Gianni himself. However, his sister has much to say for the young model:

“She’s smart, beautiful, full of energy and has a strong personality…and with that natural high star quality, I adore her,” Donatella Versace told WWD. “She’s perfect for this collection — a real Versace girl.”

Having managed to secure a Vogue cover (Nov 09), Georgia also topped her super year by being voted Model of the Year 2009. So, once her A-levels are out of the way, what path with Georgia’s life take? The world is her oyster.

SS09: Pretty in Pink

I’m not really a big fan of pink, despite being a bit of a girly girl with dressing up. However, bright pinks, like fuscia are perfect for a little pick-me-up without being cupcake cute!
See Matthew Williamson (above) and Versace for their take on the trend.

Compliments of the Highest Order!

Donatella Versace recently referred to Christopher Kane as “a young Gianni”. A compliment in itself, but coming from the icon’s sister and a fashion mogul in her own right, Kane must be pleased. Here is what she told Vogue.com

“Christopher reminds me of my brother Gianni when he was young,” she revealed. “He has the same energy. That is why I asked him to work on Versus. It was the first collection that my brother Gianni let me work on, on my own, so it’s very precious to me.”

Kane is working on Versus, Versace’s younger line. He has a lot to live up to, but it would seem that Donatella has a lot of faith in him and his success!

Versace stands firm on full priced fashion

I recently read that Versace are refusing to give in to the January Sale madness! Refusing to reduce their prices so that the lesser people can afford them! This is a quote from their CEO, Giancarlo di Risio:

“Our regular client was not queuing on January 3-4 in Milan or Rome but was on the slopes in St Moritz or on a boat in the Caribbean,” he said. “We want to offer a real luxury and not to open our doors to the consumption of young girls who can put the designer handbag of their dreams on their arm with less than 300 Euros. We are not interested in that.” ( from vogue.com).

I suppose the idea is that luxury means luxury and they are going against the whole point of their business if they give into the sale culture. What do you all think? Snobby or honest?

PUBLISHED!!!!! LBD: Chic, Classic, Timeless

This is my first article published in new university paper, The Sanctuary.

LBD: Chic, Classic, Timeless

A black dress should not be solely reserved for boardrooms and funerals. If accessorized well, it should never be boring. Coco Chanel, who is credited with inventing the LBD, almost always wore black. Year after year, celebrities count on the LBD for the red carpet.
Take Elizabeth

Hurley who shot to fame in Versace’s infamous safety-pin dress. Every season, designers find new ways of updating this classic and this autumn is no different. Balenciaga are leading the fashion pack with three of this season’s hottest updated LBDs and Versace has brought this summer’s one-shoulder dress bang up to date for the cooler months with a beautiful dress in black silk. For something a little different, Marchesa’s feathered dress is great for a party or night out. Team with killer heels and smoky eyes. A wardrobe staple, the Little Black Dress will never go out of style.
