Designer Spotlight: Sita Murt

Who is She?

Sita Murt was born in 1946 in Barcelona, the third generation of a family involved in textiles, and studied at Escola de Disseny Textil de Sarrià. When Murt lost her husband prematurely in 1984, she suddenly found herself forced to take the reins of his fashion business. The brand name was changed from Esteve to Sita Murt and her fashion identity was born. With the company headquarters still in Barcelona, it continues to be very much a family business; her children all have an active role in the company.

What’s the Buzz?

Sita Murt has been featured in various magazines across Europe including Vogue Espaňa. The brand started out by showing at La Pasarela Gaudi in Barcelona, but these days Murt often shows at Cibeles Fashion Week in Madrid. Some of her pieces were used in the Almodóvar film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona with Penelope Cruz and Spanish actress Victoria Abril is an ambassador for the brand. Murt is known for her hard work and has a notable reputation in Spain, particularly in Barcelona. The brand is synonymous with Spanish innovation, sophistication and originality, particularly when it comes to her maxi-jackets which feature every season in different ways.

The Look

Whatever the season, Sita Murt covers almost every wardrobe eventuality. The Sita Murt woman is young, fun-loving and knows her figure and dresses to her advantage. Murt plays with volumes and texture and uses fine, natural materials in her designs. Each piece reflects the creative personality of the designer herself, and Murt is particularly known for her work with knitwear.

This season, the look is feminine and light with pastels and delicate fabrics dominating the S/S 2010 collection. Textured pretty dresses, soft tailoring and summer separates make up the collection; it’s all about simple, wearable, stylish clothes for the modern woman. For A/W 2010, the look is still pretty with tailoring but with a wider variety of textures and materials. Light summer dresses have been given an edge, with shiny metallics and chunky knit.

Where to Buy

Sita Murt has stores across Spain as well as a boutique in Paris. The brand is also available to buy online at Farfetch.

Easy Like a Sunday Morning…

I have been recently inspired to recreate my entire summer look. This is the reason why. The video is from the DACE SS10 lookbook. I discovered the line thanks to a recent blog written by Sherin at HiFashion (Thank you!). Just watch and enjoy the simple French music, Bardot-esque model and beautiful, simple clothes…!
Don’t you just love the sun shining? Yesterday I took a book into the back garden and just sat enjoying the return of the summery weather! I’m going to Sardinia next week and really hope I get some fabulous sunshine. It’s guaranteed to put a smile on my face!

Zara SS10

Just caught a glimpse of Zara SS10 collection and it’s looking pretty good! Above are a few of my favourite looks from the collection. Which is your favourite?

There isn’t a Zara anywhere near me at the moment, but when I lived in Galicia in Spain (the home of Zara!), I lived in the store! And I have noted that there are a couple of stores in Costa Rica, so I’m hoping that they’re in San Jose! (For those of you following me on Twitter, you may have noticed that I’m going there, but more of that to come very soon!)

Below are a few dresses that I think are perfect for almost any occasion this summer. What else could you need for daytime casual, lunch with the girls or a stylish summer dinner date?

Springtime Surprises from Tesco!

Got a lovely surprise from Tesco Clothing last week. They sent this lovely biscuit for me as a thank you for my praise of their new advert. (Really guys, I was genuinely impressed by F&F Spring/Summer, otherwise I wouldn’t have written about all it! But, thanks!) It’s a mini version of their fabulous Pagoda dress from the new F&F Couture range! How cute is it? Although, it just added to my extra sugary calories over Easter! Oops!
The dress however should last longer than my biscuit did! It is priced at £140, which is the top end of the range but it’s a pretty decent price for couture, don’t you think? It’s only available online though girls, so get shopping! And while you’re at it, check out the rest of the range! My favourite item alongside the Pagoda is this striped waistcoat. Do you like it?

PS. I just clicked on the website too and noticed they are running a competition to win £500 to shop with if you join their mailing list!

Summer Fashion at Tesco!

I was just watching TV with my mum and found myself quite excited by the F&F at Tesco advert. As the models strutted down the countryside catwalk, I was saying “Ooh, denim shorts – I’ve been looking for some of those for summer!” and “That dress looks a lot like Alexa Chung’s Luella heart dress!”, which to me meant ‘Brilliant – affordable summer wardrobe!”.

I don’t believe that supermarket clothing lines should really be overlooked. They have a big budget behind them, meaning that they can be made cheaply but still of good quality. George @ Asda (owned by US giant Walmart) has always been brilliant for budget fashionistas (not to mention very handy to grab whilst nipping out for milk!), yet Tesco seems to be stepping up in the style stakes. They are even launching F&F Couture, priced between £40 and £140 which marks a change in supermarket fashion. It will launch exclusively online on March 29th 2010.
What do you think about supermarket fashion? Are you a fan? Or do you prefer the real couture?!

SS10: Belt it up!

Did you notice anything about Burberry SS10′s runway? Belts are back, in a big way, so for the easiest way to freshen up your look for Spring Summer – just add a belt! It doesn’t have to match, it doesn’t have to be leather, it can be with or without a big buckle. In fact, it could even be on your bag. Get the message? Good. Belt up!

SS10: Greige nails!

So, have you heard that GREIGE is the new red? I’m a big fan of red nails, but it seems that they are so. last. year. (or try “decade”, but then I’m a classic girl at heart!). Hot this season is the coveted blend of grey and beige, as seen on various celebrities including Lauren Conrad, Sandra Bullock and Eva Mendes. Gwyneth was front row at Madrid fashion week sporting greige nails and the whole SS10 Chanel show, including Lily Allen wore the Particuliere shade last September. It’s official – forget Jade Green, Chanel is once again leading the nail trends this season with GREIGE.

Elle recommends that if you can’t get your hands on Chanel’s Particuliere, £16 in store now, then you should check out Nails Inc’s Jermyn Street, £10.50 or OPI’s Tickle My France-y, £9.95 (SS10 Louise Goldin show at LFW)

SS10: Nude Heels

Nude heels have so many positives. They make your legs look longer, they go with EVERYTHING and they are wonderfully fresh for the spring/summer season! What’s not to love?!

New Blog Design!!

Do you like my new design for SS10? It’s not that different (check out the AW09 one below!) I have once again gone with Versace, as they seem to really get the essence of summer every year. Next to Versace is the infamous photo of bloggers (BryanBoy) mixing with fashion journalism elite (Anna Wintour) on the D&G SS10 FROW- we have made it people! On the right side are the beautiful pastels from the Valentino SS10 collection.

SS10: Pastels

This season is very girly. Frills and florals are taking over and colours have gone the same way with a typically pretty spring palette. So expect lots of pale blues, baby pinks and other pastel colours: soft lilacs, peaches, yellows, pistachios and creams. However, it’s not all candy floss and pink carnations. Pastel dresses in floaty chiffon and tulle are cut thigh-high, with provocative splits keeping a pretty look sexy.

For more inspiration, look to Luella for girly dresses, Burberry for beautiful modern separates (above), Valentino for the ultimate in soft and pretty cocktail dresses and Versace has produced some amazingly contemporary summer looks (below).
And despite the current weather, don’t forget that you can still wear this trend until the sun comes out. This ASOS mac is perfect for covering up on a spring day. And for a stylish workwear option, why not try this gorgeous blazer, also from ASOS.
