So Tyra’s writing books now?!

Oh dear. These were the first two words that came to mind, followed by “I wonder if it will be as successful as her pop career?”. But you have to hand it to the woman, she knows how to market herself. From being skinny skinny and high fashion to curvy and sexy, she has consistently been at the top of her game and with the success of the Next Top Model series all over the globe, she is no dumb model. However, a novel named Modelland revealing secrets about unnamed fashion celebrities is about to hit the stands and word on the street is that she has based it all on true life. Now if that wasn’t enough to leave Janice Dickenson and Naomi Campbell quaking in their boots (it may be better to stay on the right side of Tyra Banks in future!), we are all expected to read it!
Tyra says:
The story happens in a make-believe place called Modelland – every girl in the world wants to go there because it’s where “Intoxibellas”are trained. Intoxibellas are drop-dead beautiful, kick-butt fierce and, yeah, maybe they have some powers too. (But I’m confirming NOTHING! Ha. You gotta wait for the book.) The story follows a teen girl and her friends who find themselves magically transported to Modelland, even though they’re really not supposed to be there. (Okay, now, that’s ALL I’m saying!)

Good, is ALL I can say! Actually, I want to be proved wrong on this, I really do, because I love a good fashion novel. The thing is that the last time I read a book of this ilk (i.e. famous person makes novel out of crazy “real” life) was LA Candy by Lauren Conrad and I was severely disappointed. That book was pretty rubbish and only really began to get interesting at the end. I so wanted to love it too, but it just fell so flat. Whether I bother with the next installment is yet to be decided..!
I really am not a fan of the crazy fantasy fairy tales that some seasons of ANTM have taken (anyone remember that space-age one? And don’t get me started on when she thought she was a goddess of FIERCE!) It’s just all a little ridiculous for me. Maybe it’s the British in me, or maybe its the fact that I have always been so much more seduced by reality (whatever that may be!). I have never really been into anything with huge imagination (Willy Wonka, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars etc). I’m just not a fantastical kind of person. But, is that such a bad thing? Either way, I’m hoping that these novels are done with class (maybe a little more author and a little less Top Model?). The irony in all of this is that I’m going to read it anyway, just to find out. That’s the beauty of marketing I suppose.

Does Heidi want to be Britney?

In the past year or so, she has managed to record a terrible album, pose for various men’s mags including Playboy and marry one of the most irritating people on the planet, Spencer Pratt.
On Sunday, The Hills’ star Heidi Montag performed at Miss Universe looking more like Ms Spears than Britney herself! Not to critical acclaim I hasten to add…

What happened to LC’s best friend Heidi Montag? The girl who went gooey-eyed over a little puppy in a box and was happy to lie out by the pool all day?
Nowadays, she never stops!
What do you think? Where’s small-town Heidi gone? Is she still sweet at heart? Or was she never than innocent?

Twitter Fashion

When even Karl Lagerfeld likes a tweet every now and again, you know you’re on to a winner. I was pretty impressed with myself for getting into it even before my super-technologically-advanced friend started tweeting. The fact that with his iPhone, he tweets way more than I do these days is irrelevant.

The beauty of Twitter is that everyone from celebrities to politicians to farmers can communicate with the world in less than 160 characters. You don’t need to be clever with it, just tell people what you are doing. Ok, so fair enough you may not be interested in various people’s updates and the occasional spam that you get can be quite irritating but it is nothing compared to other social networking sites. What I love the most about Twitter is the personal contact that people have with fans. Paris Hilton never stops telling us just how fabulous her life really is and Sarah Brown keeps us up-to-date with her life at 10 Downing Street. If you are a fan of The Hills, you’ll find the whole gang online: Lauren, Lo, Stephanie, Audrina, Whitney, Heidi, Spencer, Brody, Frankie and Holly.

In terms of publications, you’ll find various international magazines: Vogue Paris, The Times Style, Marie Claire US and Elle US as well as their international counterparts. Follow  @Modelinia for major models such as Chanel Iman and Sasha Pivovarova! Brix Start Smith tweets fashion horrors (with photos!) that she spots in supermarkets and restaurants. Her current favourites are Italian women interpreting the SS09 floral trend! Lagerfeld isn’t the only designer to twitter; Marc Jacobs was rumoured to be one of the first to hit the trend and Betsey Johnson likes to keep in touch with a few updates! And for the latest on high street deals, follow stores and labels such as ASOS, PPQ or Topshop.

SS09: Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad’s collection for SS09 was a hit, despite critics expecting a little more from her, like to maybe push the boundaries away from staying from safe. But, then they do say, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Her accessories were hugely popular and rightly so. Here are a few tasters:

The Hills are alive… and pricey!!

I just read on Perez Hilton’s blog that Lauren Conrad gets $75,000 per episode of the reality show, The Hills. That’s a lot of money to have your life filmed!

What’s more, Spencer is on the same as Heidi ($65,000), whereas Whitney and Audrina are on considerably less! It seems a bit ridiculous for the original stars of the show to be on so much less than that idiot, but I guess he does create a lot of drama and probably pulls in the viewers!
I guess, at this point, I may as well admit that I have a huge obsession with The Hills! I find the lifestyle something that I could definitely get used to and the fashion and sunshine surrounded by ridiculous drama rolled into just 20mins just brightens up my week!
