CTJT Newsletter

I have to say, I’m pretty proud of this mention in the recent newsletter for my Fashion Journalism Course with Cleland Thom:

Success stories

Fashion journalism student Stefanie Haigh has been busy…

  • Her fashion blog is going from strength to strength: http://stefaniegraceblog.blogspot.com She attracts readers using Twitter, Facebook and Blogcatalog mainly, as well as commenting on other peoples´ blogs.
  • She also wrote a couple of articles for her student newspaper The Sanctuary (Birmingham edition) and has recently been promoted to fashion editor. She is also a regular contributor for Amazona Style – a blog for tall women.
  • She also writes for the fashion section of Beanzine for Student Beans and has secured a work experience placement at The Daily Express´ fashion desk for July, with the option of extending it.

My 100th Blog!!

Wow, I’ve come a long way and I’ve written a LOT of blogs! But, I have to say that I am absolutely loving it all! Last April I decided that Fashion Journalism was definitely for me. I had often considered it, but often thought that maybe it was just every little girl’s dream and told myself to come up with a better plan! But then I found a course online with CTJT and decided to go for it! I paid for the course on the day that I handed in all of my Year Abroad work. I was so excited that I even finished and submitted the first module on the first day! I started my blog last April and couldn’t imagine what it would be like with archives; pages and pages of things that I had written!! Since then, I have started writing for my student newspaper The Sanctuary (and have recently been offered the editor’s position!), I also write for amazonastyle.com and studentbeans.com. I also have a greater understanding of the world of fashion journalism and an internship lined up for July with The Daily Express Fashion Desk. All in all, I an thoroughly enjoying all of it and just can’t wait to graduate so that I can do this full time!

I have a couple of thank you’s to throw out at the bottom here: Amazona, Student Beans and The Sanctuary Bham for giving me a platform. The Daily Express for thinking that I’m good enough! My best friend Chris for putting me up on his sofa next summer and also for his knowledge of London transport, which will no doubt come in handy! My parents for actually taking me seriously on this! And finally, my boyfriend Mark for having to listen to me go on about Vogue and shoes for hours on end and not complaining about it… much!!

Just a quick update!!

Hi everyone!

I’m sorry I’m so busy at the moment! I have no time to do much blogging, although I am trying to keep up with all the comments! Thank you so much for all of them! My plan at the moment is to get this last week of uni done before the Christmas holidays, then I may be MIA for a few days as I’m jetting off to Barcelona with my mum to do some Xmas shopping! However, on my return, the blog will be full of photos from my adventures of late, as well as my vintage shopping buys!!
I went to the Clothes Show Live on Friday with my friend Elles, so expect a quick review of that within the next couple of weeks! I’m slowly learning how to improve my blog – I was a complete novice when I started, but I seem to have got the hang of it and I really love writing for it! I wish I didn’t have so many other things going on in my life, so that I can dedicate more time to it!
Outside of this blog, I’ve got a quite a bit of work to do for my uni course, I want to complete a few more modules of my Fashion Journalism course with Cleland Thom and I’ve also got a few articles to write! You will hopefully be seeing a couple on Amazona (see previous blog), as well as something for Studentbeans.com (a breakdown of the Christmas sales). I am also going to try and fit something in for The Sanctuary, my uni paper and I have also agreed to write something for a new website called www.directoryofbirmingham.com, so all in all – a busy month is ahead of me! I will eventually link them all back to this blog, so that all of my work is in one place.
Plus, I haven’t made my NYE plans yet!! Any suggestions?!

LOVING Stylista!!

Stylista is a new show from the makers of Project Runway and ANTM where editor of ELLE Magazine US, Anne Slowey, is looking for an editorial assistant. The candidates all start at the bottom, organising her niece’s bday party and making her breakfast etc and work up the ladder doing tasks for her. The least successful goes home every week. I’m addicted! And I want that job! There are maybe 2 or 3 at the moment that appear actually capable of doing the job – the others seem to be loving the cameras or the environment. But as they say to work for a magazine – you have to LIVE and BREATHE fashion. Make sure you check it out! It’s not currently available in the UK, but there are ways and means on the internet!

Less slacking!!

My life has been a bit manic lately, so I haven’t had chance to blog. I’ve moved back to Bham and started my final year at university. Life got hectic. I had a friend living with me whilst she found a house and had no internet, not to mention the workload!!

However, I am back on track now, so I’ll be right back on everything this weekend! It’s wonderful to be back in Birmingham, especially seeing all of my old friends and making lots of new ones! I’ve signed up to a couple of yoga classes, joined the netball team and also am hoping to get out and about with the international students! Also, I’m very determined to keep up with my uni workload, my fashion course and this blog! Wish me luck!

Next Step…

I have signed up to write for the Adornment (Fashion and Beauty) section of “The Sanctuary”, the new student newspaper at the University of Birmingham. Juggling that with final year work may be a challenge, but I am really looking forward to experiencing these things first hand. I have also put my name down for a French module next year entitled “La Presse et son discours: analyse et ecriture”. It is all about the style and analysis of French newspapers etc, so I’m hoping that I get it, as its another small step into learning more about the world of journalism. I still haven’t got round to finishing my article for Module 2 of my fashion journalism course, as life is just getting in the way and I really want it to be good, so I dont want to just sit and rush it out, just to send it off! Though it is tempting, considering how little free time I have at the moment!

I should probably stop writing blogs and get on it!!

my first ever blog!

Hi!

Welcome to my first ever blog! I find the first blog quite an intimidating thing to write; what do you say? How should you come across? All of these types of things filled my mind and then I suddenly thought, just write! If people don’t like you then they won’t read it again! So, here I am, this is me!

I’m writing a blog as a way to communicate my thoughts and practice more writing, that isn’t academic. My dream is to be a fashion journalist and I’ve always had a thing for writing. Many of my essays get criticised at university for having too much of my own voice in them. I often get comments along the lines of “a little colloquial” or “very magaziney”. Well, I guess that I should put that to good use and write for magazines with my own voice! So, that’s what I am attempting to do.

I’m currently living and studying in Santiago de Compostela in Spain on my year abroad from university, as part of my course. Above is a photo I took of the city’s main attraction, its beautiful cathedral. I study French and Hispanic Studies at the University of Birmingham, and now I’m studying Fashion Journalism online with Cleland Thom. My dream is to combine my language skills and my love of fashion and travel in my future career. It’ll be a long hard struggle, but I’m willing to do it!

Until the next time…

Ciao for now!
