Designer Spotlight: Sita Murt

Who is She?

Sita Murt was born in 1946 in Barcelona, the third generation of a family involved in textiles, and studied at Escola de Disseny Textil de Sarrià. When Murt lost her husband prematurely in 1984, she suddenly found herself forced to take the reins of his fashion business. The brand name was changed from Esteve to Sita Murt and her fashion identity was born. With the company headquarters still in Barcelona, it continues to be very much a family business; her children all have an active role in the company.

What’s the Buzz?

Sita Murt has been featured in various magazines across Europe including Vogue Espaňa. The brand started out by showing at La Pasarela Gaudi in Barcelona, but these days Murt often shows at Cibeles Fashion Week in Madrid. Some of her pieces were used in the Almodóvar film, Vicky Cristina Barcelona with Penelope Cruz and Spanish actress Victoria Abril is an ambassador for the brand. Murt is known for her hard work and has a notable reputation in Spain, particularly in Barcelona. The brand is synonymous with Spanish innovation, sophistication and originality, particularly when it comes to her maxi-jackets which feature every season in different ways.

The Look

Whatever the season, Sita Murt covers almost every wardrobe eventuality. The Sita Murt woman is young, fun-loving and knows her figure and dresses to her advantage. Murt plays with volumes and texture and uses fine, natural materials in her designs. Each piece reflects the creative personality of the designer herself, and Murt is particularly known for her work with knitwear.

This season, the look is feminine and light with pastels and delicate fabrics dominating the S/S 2010 collection. Textured pretty dresses, soft tailoring and summer separates make up the collection; it’s all about simple, wearable, stylish clothes for the modern woman. For A/W 2010, the look is still pretty with tailoring but with a wider variety of textures and materials. Light summer dresses have been given an edge, with shiny metallics and chunky knit.

Where to Buy

Sita Murt has stores across Spain as well as a boutique in Paris. The brand is also available to buy online at Farfetch.

The Saga of Winter Boots: Every Woman’s Nightmare

I spent most of November and December with wet feet from leaking boots and torrential downpours in delightful Birmingham at university, then in a soaking Barcelona, at home in Lincolnshire and at my boyfriend’s house in Hertfordshire. Moral to the story? Stop wearing leaky boots. Glitch to this solution? Try finding me some that fit the mould!
Back in October, I fell in love with a pair of boots that I bought very cheaply on a whim from Primark. I wasn’t sure about them at first, but I had been after some ankle boots for a while and they seemed worth it at the time. After about a week of not taking them off, I was hooked and kept thinking to myself that I should go and get them in other colours, or just a back-up pair just in case. Did I bother? No. And, about a week after that, the inevitable occurred. They began to leak. Nothing can compare to that feeling of soaking wet socks at the beginning of the day when you know that you won’t be warm and snuggly again until at least 6pm. So I stopped wearing them, unless I was convinced that it wasn’t going to rain, but that didn’t last long as my trusty black sheepskins, bought from Barratts by my mother as a present before I moved to Santiago, also began to leak and then fell apart. At this point, I was pretty screwed. I had work piling up, both pairs of black boots leaking, the weather was not my friend and I just didn’t have the time to go shopping for more. So I kept telling myself that when I did have time, all would be well.

However, no such luck. I couldn’t find anything that matched my Primark beauties

(I was looking for the exact style, but much better quality, and couldn’t even replace them for the time being as they had sold out everywhere I went!) Finally after weeks of making do, I found 2 pairs of boots, in New Look of all places and I love them both!  The first is a gorgeous pair of fringed ankle boots in black suede for £30 (minus student discount!) and the second were half price (reduced to £30) leather faded black cowboy boots, with a slight heel! (I continue embracing my height, Amazona!) It is very difficult to find a pair of boots for a reasonable price in a wide UK size 8, when you are quite picky about what you like! What made it all even better was that my boyfriend bought me BOTH PAIRS as a belated Xmas present! (Yes, that is how long it took me to find the flippin’ things!!)

The plan now is to alternate wearing them along with other shoes so that I never end up in that situation again! I shall also be using protector spray on them to keep them in tip top condition. I can only hope that this all works!

Why we should embrace our height & Amazona!

I’ve just had my first blog published on Amazona Blog (see here)

I’ve written about Amazona before and the wonders that it can do for a tall woman’s confidence… in the real world!

Here’s an excerpt from my article, but don’t forget to check out the whole site by clicking on the link here and the shopping site here.

All of us tall women have felt this at one time, in any city; you think that you are a giant, you feel huge and ugly and fat (even though in reality you’ve probably just got some good womanly curves on you!) and you most definitely do not feel like going out and attempting the whole mortifying experience all over again! When it comes to shopping, being tall sucks. We may as well be honest about it. Especially when you’re shopping in Spain! Ok, so this statement may not be as strongly felt as it may have sounded, but I just spent 3 days trying to shop in Barcelona and I could not get anything to fit! When your feet are a large UK 8 and you are 5’11’’ in bare feet, shopping in a city full of petite senoritas does nothing for your self-confidence.

Amazona is here to make sure that we stop feeling like monsters! If you need to know where to get jeans that are long enough, a dress with a waistline actually on your waist, shoes that are big enough (and don’t look like big leather boats!) or even how to feel better about yourself, then check out the advice on this blog and the website!

I went out this morning and bought a gorgeous pair of black gladiator heels for an interview tomorrow from New Look, size 8 with a 4-5” heel! Why should we hide away in baggy clothes and flat shoes! I’m not saying that I’m converting to heels all day long! I’m quite happy in a pair of ballet flats or chunky ankle boots for hitting the shops or the library, but when I want to put on a pair of heels and strut out in front of the world, I will! I have the confidence now and I will never lose it! People look up to supermodels as gorgeous Amazonian women, and just because we don’t strut down a catwalk proudly displaying our great heights doesn’t mean that we can’t strut down the street! So, what are you waiting for? Go and buy some heels for that Christmas or NYE party! You’ll feel, and look like a million dollars!

Just a quick update!!

Hi everyone!

I’m sorry I’m so busy at the moment! I have no time to do much blogging, although I am trying to keep up with all the comments! Thank you so much for all of them! My plan at the moment is to get this last week of uni done before the Christmas holidays, then I may be MIA for a few days as I’m jetting off to Barcelona with my mum to do some Xmas shopping! However, on my return, the blog will be full of photos from my adventures of late, as well as my vintage shopping buys!!
I went to the Clothes Show Live on Friday with my friend Elles, so expect a quick review of that within the next couple of weeks! I’m slowly learning how to improve my blog – I was a complete novice when I started, but I seem to have got the hang of it and I really love writing for it! I wish I didn’t have so many other things going on in my life, so that I can dedicate more time to it!
Outside of this blog, I’ve got a quite a bit of work to do for my uni course, I want to complete a few more modules of my Fashion Journalism course with Cleland Thom and I’ve also got a few articles to write! You will hopefully be seeing a couple on Amazona (see previous blog), as well as something for Studentbeans.com (a breakdown of the Christmas sales). I am also going to try and fit something in for The Sanctuary, my uni paper and I have also agreed to write something for a new website called www.directoryofbirmingham.com, so all in all – a busy month is ahead of me! I will eventually link them all back to this blog, so that all of my work is in one place.
Plus, I haven’t made my NYE plans yet!! Any suggestions?!
