Eurovision 2013 Party

continental cheese board for a party

Eurovision Party food

There is a rather huge tradition amongst language students, girls and gays alike to get together and celebrate the awesome cheese-fest that is The Eurovision Song Contest. For my non-European readers out there, Eurovision is a huge singing and entertainment extravanganza where countries compete to be the host of the following year’s show.

This year it was in Sweden (hence the meatballs at our viewing party) and next year Denmark will take it, as they won on Saturday. The UK are notoriously bad at this – the voting tends to be political and we don’t have a lot of European friends and neighbours. However, if you fancy a camp evening watching some crazy Europop and insane costumes, then this is for you.

I went round to my best friend’s house to drink some wine, eat some cheese and watch some crazy pop. It was a a lot of fun. Next year I’m hoping to expand it and have someone representing every country. That would be immense!

Weekend in Texas

texas trip photos 1

I just got back from a long weekend in Texas for my friends’ wedding. Austin was pretty cool. Texans are super friendly. It was great to lie out by the pool, check out the food trucks, go to a honky tonk bar and be in San Antonio for Cinco de Mayo. I was with a fantastic group of people, who really made the trip worthwhile. I have a lot of photos on the way, so this is just a quick ‘Hey y’all!’ whilst I get over jet lag and get back into work mode.

Happy Friday Link Love

This week I’ve been busy with my day job which means that all I actually want to do is sleep but this weekend, I shall be getting my hair did (growing too fast!) attending a friend’s birthday, catching up on piles of freelance work and hopefully sleeping and doing a full spring clean of my apartment (well overdue).

This spring cleaning post on Glitter Guide is inspiring me. As is this on Vanessa Lachey.

This piece on why women are more at risk of stress in the workplace caught my eye.

I’ve been on Facebook all week.

That’s about it really. I’ll be back on the blog soon!

Happy Mother’s Day!

It’s Mother’s Day here in the UK! I’m at home for the weekend, which makes me super happy because not only do I get to not cook, hang out with my family and spend a lot less that I would if I was out and about in London, but I also get to sleep in this beautiful bed AND see these beautiful pups. Score.

Friday LOVE

It’s Friday! Thank heavens for that. Seriously. This week was supposed to be very busy for me. I had plans every night. And unfortunately, they all went out of the window when I woke up on Tuesday with the worst migraine ever. I couldn’t see straight and I had meetings and training sessions to get through. By Tuesday night, I had a full-on cold. Wednesday, I barely left the sofa. Out went dinner with friends, work drinks and a pretty special invitation to the ***LACOSTE L!VE TEE PARTY*** (They sent me over some pics though, if you’re interested). Luckily, apart from a couple of work meetings, I have not a lot planned for today. So I’m catching up on study reading, organising a few things, sorting through emails before heading home for a chilled out weekend. It’s Mother’s Day here in the UK, so I’m going to see my family and maybe fit in lunch with a friend too.

I’m also aware that I have been a terrible blogger, in terms of frequency and consistency, so I am really hoping to get back on top of that too. Incidentally, how do you balance your time?

Here’s a little link love for you all too:

Love this! Size is in the eye of the beholder.

Yes, this happened. Superheroes are not all fictitious.

Quote of the week: “I know it’s hard to write, darling. But it’s harder not to. The only way you’ll find out if you “have it in you” is to get to work and see if you do. The only way to override your “limitations, insecurities, jealousies, and ineptitude” is to produce. You have limitations. You are in some ways inept. This is true of every writer, and it’s especially true of writers who are 26. You will feel insecure and jealous. How much power you give those feelings is entirely up to you.” ( from here )

Jennifer Lawrence is still doing it for me.

EVERYTHING on The Everygirl is making me smile.  Particularly, a tour of Cait’s studio and this inspiring interview with Caitlin  Wilson.

A Snowy Walk in the Park

Enjoying the snow London snow london snowy trees park benches in the snowThis the first post that I have done using my new camera (Samsung NX1000). I’m so excited! What do you think of my pictures?

It’s so snowy here in London and it’s the good stuff too: not too cold plus it’s nice and crisp to walk on. I decided to brave the weather with my camera (it got a little bit wet) and set off to get some fabulous pictures of my local park. This is Victoria Park in Finchley, North London. The picture of me was taken by a passing friendly guy who offered to take a picture of me. He seemed to know a lot more about the camera than me, which is why I know I definitely need to learn more! But I’m still so excited to take more photos this year!

How’s the weather where you are?

Tourist at Home

I had so much fun this weekend. My friend Danni, a great friend from university, came to stay and I was so excited to show London to her and have a proper catch up. Not just a dinner, but a whole weekend of girl time! It was amazing.

We hung out and caught up over wine and fajitas on Friday night when she arrived. On Saturday, we spent some time down by the river. I seem to spend a lot of time on Southbank meeting friends, but Danni had never been, so we took a (brisk!) walk down by the water past all of the boats and restaurants, had lunch overlooking London and then headed into the Tate Modern for a spot of culture. Then I took her further down the river to Borough Market, where we sampled some mulled wine and soaked up the atmosphere as darkness fell. I also got very excited to show her Bridget Jones’ front door. I don’t know if she was that into it, but it excites me every time I see it! We wandered around Vinopolis with their amazing umbrella display before dipping into Bermondsey and over Tower Bridge to St Katherine’s Docks for a well-deserved cocktail hour. Especially as it was absolutely freezing and rainy at that point. We then ventured over to St Paul’s for quiet French bistro dinner, met my other friend, In, for drinks and headed to meet more people at Sky Bar in East London. The views from the top of that building was amazing. Needless to say, Sunday was pretty much about jumping out of bed and making it to the station in time for her train. We had planned on going to brunch, but didn’t quite manage that.

I topped off the weekend by catching up with another friend catching another train from another station, before heading home to crash in front of the television and wait for the snow. It is so much fun to live in a city like London and to embrace what is essentially right on your doorstep. Who’s coming to visit next?!

How was your weekend?

A Weekend in Windsor

A couple of weekends ago, I spent the weekend in Windsor with one of my best friends from university. I had never been to Windsor & Eton. Eton, of course, is where the posh school is (alumni include Prince Charles, Princes William and Harry, Homeland star Damian Lewis and posh adventurer Bear Grylls).

It was a lovely little place to wander around. The buildings were very pretty and the streets were lined with cute little cafes and traditional fudge shops.

We went to a fabulous pub called The Duchess of Cambridge. It’s Kate’s pub! Brilliant! The food was fantastic. I thoroughly recommend it to all who visit looking for a great place for lunch in Windsor.

This smelled amazing!

The famous Legoland is in Windsor, so it seemed only fitting to have a giant Lego Royal guard in the entrance to the hotel.

We stayed at the Harte and Garter hotel right opposite Windsor Castle, with a Union Jack proudly flying on the balcony. The view was spectacular. It was a great place to stay in Windsor. The bedroom was lovely too. It was perfect for crashing and chilling out in after a day of shopping and sightseeing.

One thing is that we didn’t visit the castle and we didn’t visit the spa. Maybe next time. Cos I definitely want to go back!

Friday Things

20121123-160741.jpg

I went to Windsor with a friend last weekend. This was the view from the balcony! Hello Windsor Castle!

I’ve been building my Xmas list… No 1 is Samsung camera with free galaxy tab! (I’ve been reeeeaallly good this year Santa!)

I went to Book Club. Waah! Room by Emma Donaghue is AMAZING! Please go and read it now. My review will be up soon.

I restarted the 30 day shred and it feels so good to be working out again. Today was day 4 of Level 1.

I have been making soup and eating porridge. Perfect for staying healthy in winter.

Embracing my new, healthy hair cut despite it being a couple of inches shorter than where I feel comfortable.

Also downloaded this for FREE on Kindle because of this fab post. Having access to so many amazing books for free on Kindle is such a fabulous thing in my opinion. Read the classics, people! They are FREE!

Got this in the mail, but it is already full:

I also booked a Christmas comedy show hosted by Michael McIntyre, ticket to go and see Girls Aloud in April and got commissioned to cover the Clothes Show Live in December for Yahoo!

Tonight, I’m out for drinks to say goodbye to one of my friends who has decided to move to Sydney for a year! She had better come back… although I am planning a little jaunt to go and meet her out there..!

Have a great weekend all!
