Book Review: If you have to cry, go outside…

If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told YouIf You Have to Cry, Go Outside: And Other Things Your Mother Never Told You by Kelly Cutrone

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Any girl looking to further her career or do well in life should probably read this book. Scratch that – they definitely should! Kelly Cutrone (of The Hills and The City fame – although even move admirable in her own show Kell on Earth) has written a guide to life in the only way that she could. Straight to the point and honest. Does she care about being called a ‘bitch’? Are you kidding? She relishes it. That’s because, to her, bitch is not a negative word. It’s a woman in control of her life and who is not afraid to speak her mind. Brilliant! In that case, I’m a bitch too!

Although well-known for her reality show appearances, Cutrone is not a reality star and she didn’t go on television for the limelight. She did it for business. Her international PR company People’s Revolution is one of the go-to PR groups for Fashion Weeks across the world, thanks in large part to her no-nonsense attitude. Here, she tells you how you can be as successful as her – work damned hard! – and how you do not need to be afraid to have it all; she balances her hectic work life with weekends in the country with her daughter, Ava.

If You Have to Cry, Go Outside: and Other Things Your Mother Never Told You follows Cutrone through her life from a simple childhood in the suburbs and nursing school to sleeping on sofas in New York until finding a calling in bi-coastal public relations. It is an honest, and surprisingly spiritual, tale of life in the fast lane from one of the best in the business. You would be stupid not to read it.
