Stepping Down and Stepping Out: SS10 Shoes

Shoes, shoes, shoes! We all love them. After all, they are the only things that will always fit whether you eat that last piece of cheesecake or not! However, in the past few seasons, they have not been loving us. What with attempts at tottering in seven inch stilettos around bars and that model pile-up on Miuccia Prada’s catwalk, they have not been the easiest fashion accessories to wear. But, wait! Before we abandon the Carrie Bradshaw in all of us, we must take note of something wondrous occurring on the runways this season: the return of the kitten heel! The trend was spotted on the catwalks of Luella, Missoni, Chloe and Marni. Finally, we can look fabulous and still run around sample sales with ease. It had to happen soon. There’s only so high you can go before you start considering corrective foot surgery à la SJP and Mrs Beckham!

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with high heels. Love, because they are so pretty and can do wonders for your posture and confidence. But, as a 5’10” girl with size 8 feet, shoe shopping is not always easy. Try strapping on a pair of five inch gladiators and strutting your stuff, pretending that you are not bothered about being head and shoulders above your boyfriend and everyone else in the room. That’s where the hate comes in, when the confidence shrinks and you wish that you were in flats despite having much better legs in heels. I recently bought a pair of purple patent courts. Two inches. Brilliant for that little confidence boost, without the extra height!

Elsewhere in shoe news, do not forget that boots are still a favourite amongst fashionistas, particularly ankle boots, lace-ups and wedges. Your trusty over-the-knee styles will carry you through the cooler spring months, as will your stomping biker boots. But, for those looking to jump straight into SS10, demi-wedges also popped up on the Stella McCartney, Prada and Louis Vuitton runways, so if kitten heels are a little too demure for your liking, you can still mix style with comfort.

And for you girls who simply cannot live without your skyscraper gladiators, never fear as they have not disappeared completely! Christopher Kane is still catering for you and Alexander McQueen featured a beautiful pair of intergalactic ankle boots with a staggering ten-inch heel (Did you see last week’s Wordless Wednesday?) ! Good luck with those by the way. I’ll be sashaying down the high street in my pretty little Luella kitten heels, safe in the knowledge that SS10 is truly about stepping down off the platform and stepping out in shoes you can actually walk in!

  1. Shoes are definitely my favourite thing as well. I've recently started wearing heels and my feet are NOT happy, lol.The A. McQueen shoes are seriously out of this world. I wish I could wear them, but I can imagine me just falling straight away.

  2. Thanks for the blog and I like that because it is very informative and I like that. I also would like to share a link where you can find the much interesting information about the different brands of shoes and many more. If you are interested than visit the link.
